If so, why? Anyone in business. I read it 30 years ago, and I have listened to it twice just now and it is still as relevant to anyone in business today.
While it is set around a manufacturing plant, don't be fooled into thinking that it is just about manufacturing -- it is really about thinking, and how to think through improvements in any environment.
Who was your favorite character and why? Which scene did you most enjoy? The scout troup hike, which explained the "drum, rope, buffer" concept without actually saying "drum, rope, buffer". Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The parallel story of Alex's family life was a nice emotional touch the first time reading, but it detracts on the next few readings, if you are like me and want to go back over the concepts and study the book in more detail.
A must read for business people. Excellent way to deliver an otherwise dry topic. The story was engaging and complex concepts were delivered with ease. This is a must if you are in industry. I think this is theost helpful book I have read in a very long time, informative and interesting. I'll be listening to it again soon. The delivery of this book was the best of any audiobook I've read. They use different voices and background noises to bring you into the story.
The plot becomes a bit thin when the author tries to apply the underlying process of ongoing improvement to the main character's marital problems. I can see where the author was trying to show that these techniques could be used in all aspects of life, but in this example I think that offloading his parenting duties to his mother and winning an epic promotion at work probably had a lot more influence in saving his marriage than directly applying his mentor's techniques of process improvement.
I'm very glad to have read this book, it helped me understand the process of identifying what the goal is in any situation.
Was a little slow to start with, then once i started to understand where it was going, the story took off. This book might be old, but is still very relevant. The story-line is smooth and interesting to an extent you WILL forget you are listening to a business book. The story and message is fantastic, the characters amazing but the background music and sounds were terrible.
Very distracting and took away from the actors performances. Add to Cart failed. Please try again later. Add to Wish List failed. Remove from wishlist failed. Adding to library failed. Wooden Nichols The Goal - still relevant today I read this book 20 years ago, and while the story has a lot of remnants from the s that don't translate well to todays modern world, the concepts demonstrated through fixing the broken factory are still true today as they were then.
California Dreaming Sabrina was never searching for an association with any man. She had no time for that. She was a full time understudy maintaining two sources of income to pay for graduate school. Not simply graduate school — Harvard Law. A superior life than the one she was living. For a character who was not painted in the best light in the past three Off Campus books, Sabrina had a great deal of work to make me like her. Be that as it may, after the principal part from her POV, learning of her home life and what she was managing when she was not on the Briar grounds, I was pulling for Sabrina.
Pulling for her acknowledgment to Harvard.
